A rising sophomore and lifetime horse-lover, Brittany Hawkins has already made a big impact on the Equine Scholars Program in her first year at Georgetown.
Before venturing off to college, Brittany served as
vice president, and later president, of her 4-H Horse Club; was a member
of her high school’s student council, National Honor Society and Beta
Club; was the 2004 Eastern Kentucky Quarter Horse Association Novice
Youth Champion, the 2005 Kentucky Quarter Horse Association Reserve
Novice Youth Champion, and won many 4-H awards in horse judging, horse
bowl, and hippology at both the state and national level.
The bubbly and ambitious Kentucky native strives to experience all that the industry has to offer through both Equine Scholars sponsored events and independent activities, including coordinating a Kentucky Quarter Horse Association meeting, hosting prospective student visitors, and speaking at Scott County Middle School’s Horse Industry Day, all while working part-time at Three Day Farm in Lexington, Kentucky and preparing her own horse for the summer show season.
“In the program, I’m learning how many business opportunities the industry offers to people who are willing to work hard for them,” said Hawkins.
“Horses have had a huge impact on my life and the people in the business have done so much for me over the years. I just want to give back to the animal and the industry that has given me so much.”
